New York City // The city of dreams. Having come here though, I feel the embrace of home as I experience the genuine warmth and direct communication style of its people. It makes me both nostalgic and a little bit wistful as I remember that I no longer live in America, the country of my childhood.
東京都 // Dazzling. That is the perception I had of Tokyo before seeing it in person. Dazzling. This is the perception I have of Tokyo after having seen it in person. However, hiding in the small spaces and off beaten streets are the quiet and unassuming moments in which you experience the lives of the locals.
京都市 // I finally fulfilled my goal of visiting Kyoto, my top travel destination since I learned about its shrines in an Asian architecture course. The city was every bit as enchanting as I had envisioned, from the well preserved architecture to solo drinking and letter writing by the Kamo river.
大阪市 // While I did a little bit of sight-seeing, I came to Osaka with the sole intention of visiting friends. The highlight was being able to experience the day to day life of a local as I ventured out into a suburban city within the prefecture. It’s the little things like going to your favorite local donut shop, doing groceries, and picking up your kids from school that make a city home.

香港 // Space is elusive and people abundant; the city has no choice but to move vertically. Eastern and western cultures weave together like patterns on a quilt. Time moves fast as people from all over the world gather here, and I wonder as I watch, “Where are they going?”
广州 // Guangzhou develops so quickly as so much has changed since I was last here 4 years ago. I was also a lot less trigger happy with my camera this time and dedicated myself to spending time with the extended family, though I did sneak in some aimless wandering.
台灣 // I have to confess that the only thing I knew about Taiwan before coming was that it had extremely cheap and amazing food, only to find out that it also has abundant culture and a gorgeously lush and mountainous landscape.
While walking down a street, I met a man from Chicago who exclaimed, “Montreal is the best city I’ve ever been to. It just has so much culture and is so beautiful.” I then realized that maybe I wasn’t giving enough credit to Canada for having a rich culture.
When life gives you the opportunity to take a train across the country for Canada 150 at an astronomically affordable price, you take it (thank you, VIA Rail). I could not resist the opportunity to come back to the place of my birth and imagine what it would have been like if I had stayed.
O‘ahu // A trip for a wedding. A trip with friends. Interspersed between reunions and tourist activities were the discoveries of life on this island.
广州 // In a weeklong trip abroad amidst a school year, I flew to Guangzhou, China to visit the motherland for the second time in my life. I consider this both my first trip there and abroad, because I was just one year old the last time I went. It was so unfamiliar for this Asian American, yet familiar in its habits that my parents brought over to North America.
